2 girls rescued from brothel

Police rescued two teen girls from Daulatdia brothel in Goalanda ferry terminal area in Rajbari district on Thursday night and arrested two women.

The arrestees are -Mitu Akhter, alias Moni, 23, daughter of Mojibur Rahman, of Nageshwari Sadar upazila in Kurigram and Mukta, 30, daughter of Rajab Ali, of Habiganj Sadarupazila.

Mohammad Abdullah Al Tayebi, inspector of GoalandaGhat Police Station, said on secret information, police rescued two teen girls from the brothel and arrested two women on Thursday night.

Police said one of the two teens, was married off two years back but was divorced by her drug-addict husband.

She took shelter at her relative’s house in Savar but was sexually harassed there. Lastly she was forced to work as floating sex worker and landed at Daulatdia brothel five days earlier.

The another teen girl, also a divorcee, was taken to Tangail Brothel first by a fraud gang and then she landed at Daulatdia last Wednesday, police said. Inspector Abdullah said legal action will be taken in this regard.

Shop owners fined for selling onion at higher price

A mobile court fined four grocery shop owners Tk 14,000 for allegedly selling onion at higher price in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur on Thursday.

The mobile court led by UNO and Executive Magistrate Shirin Akter conducted a drive in four grocery shops at Thakur Bazar and Kalibari Bazar and fined them for selling onion at a rate higher than the market price violating the Consumers Rights Protection Act.

Such drives would continue to keep  the  onion price stable in the market, the UNO added.  

Man held with arms, ammo

Police arrested a criminal with arms and ammunition from Hinda Mathpara area in Gangni upazila of Meherpur yesterday.  

The arrestee was identified as Abdur Rahman, 42, son of Abdus Samad of Rangmohal village in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of Gangni Police Station Obaidur Rahman said acting on a secret information police raided the area and arrested Abdur Rahman with a shotgun, two rounds of ammunition and 400gm gunpowder.  

Abdur Rahman was accused in many cases with several police stations.
