Dr Shafiq new Jamaat ameer

Dr Shafiqur Rahman has been elected by the members (Rukan) of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) by ballot. The party's central election commission said in a press release on yesterday. According to party sources, a three-member ameer panel was made. Shafiq was number one in the panel. Number two was Mujibur Rahman and the three was Mia Golam Parwar. Shafiq has been elected by ballot of Rukuns across the country who will replace Maqbul Ahmed. Prior to this, he was secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami. In the press release, Jamaat-e-Islami also said the election was held from October 1 to November 8. The result of the election was announced yesterday declaring Dr Shafiq elected.  During his student life, he was president of the Sylhet city branch of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. Shafiq passed MBBS from Sylhet Medical College in 1983. He became a member of the central Majlis-e-Shura of Jamaat in 1985. He was the secretary of Jamaat from Sylhet district branch from 1986 to 1988.
