Man held with 70 gold bars
UNB, Chattogram

Customs Intelligence officials on Monday detained a man along with 70 gold bars from the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. Md Akhtaruzzaman Khan, 32, a resident of Fatikchhari upazila, came here from Abu Dhabi by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 11 am, said Deputy Commissioner Md Riadul Islam of Airport Customs. Customs officials recovered the gold bars weighting 2.8 kgs from his luggage which were concealed in charger lights, he said.

Student killed in road accident
BSS, Rajshahi

A college student was killed in a road accident in Chowpukuria Telinipara area under Durgapur upazila in the district yesterday afternoon, police and hospital sources said.
The deceased, identified as Altab Mahmud, 17, son of Nazer Ali of the nearby Kathalbaria village, succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 5.30 pm.
Mahmudul Hassan, officer-in-charge of Durgapur Police Station, said the student met the accident when his motorbike collided head-on with a human hauler yesterday afternoon. Local people rushed him to the hospital.

19,575 yaba tablets seized
UNB, Chattogram

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested a ‘drug trader’ along with 19,575 yaba tablets in Bohoddarhat Shahamanat area in Chattogram on Monday.
The arrestee is Jasim Uddim Siraj, 30, of Chhitpara village in Gazipur.
Tipped off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in front of New Manila Hotel in the area and arrested Jasim when he was crossing the area riding a motorbike, said a press release of RAB-7. After searching Jashim they recovered 19,575 yaba tablets which were concealed in the motorbike, it said.  The RAB team handed over Jasim to Chandgaon Police Station.

One held with arms, drugs
BSS, Rangpur

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) arrested an alleged listed top terrorist with illegal arms, ammunition and drugs from Ghaghotpara Shutki Mour area in Rangpur yesterday.
“On a tip off, a special operational team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 conducted a raid in the area and arrested the terrorist with arms, ammunition, drugs and cash money,” a press release said yesterday.
The arrested person is Aminul Islam alias Aminul Don alias Don, 35, son of late Moyen Uddin of Ashratpur area under Tazhat Thana of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP).
The elite force seized an iron-made pipe gun with two cartridges, one motorcycle, 50 bottles of smuggled phensidyl syrup, 100 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, two mobile phone sets and cash money from his possession during the raid.

Maizbhandari’s ‘Urs’ today

The Islamic spiritual abode of Maizbhandar Darbar will celebrate the 85th annual “Urs” of the great Sufi saint Mozaddede Zaman Hazrat Maolana Shahsufi Abdul Gani Choudhury Maizbhandari on November 13.
Recitation from the Holy Quran, dua and milad mahfil and akheri munazat will be held to mark the occasion at the Bhandar Sharif in Chattogram, said a press release yesterday. A seminar on the philosophy and ideology of Abdul Gani Choudhury Maizbhandari will be presided over by Professor Shahzada Syed Muhammad Safiul Gani Choudhury.
Former Vice-chancellor of Chattogram University Professor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and former Professor of Chittagong College Dr NKM Akber Hossain will be present there as the chief and special guests respectively at the event, added the release.
