Councillor Rajib on fresh remand

A court here yesterday placed ward councilor Tarekuzzaman Rajib to a four-day fresh remand in an arms case filed with capital’s Mohammadpur Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari passed the order as the councillor of ward-33 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) was produced before the court and investigation officer (IO) and RAB-2 sub- inspector Pranay Kumar Pramanik pleaded to place him on a 10-day fresh remand. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayeed on November 4 sent Rajib to jail after end of his remand in two cases filed against him under arms and narcotics acts.

Police on that day also filed a report against the councillor, saying he established a reign of terror in and around Mohammadpur and Adabor areas through his gang.

Terming him as sultan of crime world in those areas, police said Rajib amassed a huge wealth through land grabbing and extortion, using his armed cadres.
