Bangladesh Coast Guard provides medical care, relief for victims

In order to deal with the aftermath of cyclone Bulbul Bangladesh Coast Guard is providing emergency rescue, relief and medical assistance to various affected areas in the coastal regions, says a press release.

Emergency rescue, relief operations and medical services were provided through several ships at Koyra, and Gabura areas of Satkhira and Dobala Char in Sundarbans. Apart from this, free medical care is being provided to the victims at Nidrachkina and Charmanika. Under the overall supervision of the Coast Guard, necessary support was provided to tourists trapped in St Martin's. Nearly 14346 people were evacuated from the southern and south-western suburbs of the coastal area, bringing them to a secure location.  

Earlier, control rooms were set up in several zones with additional Coast Guard members deployed at each station, including small ships of the Bangladesh Coast Guard during the cyclone. During the cyclone a drowning trawler with fourteen fishermen was rescued from Thengar char and ten people along with a dead body were rescued from a drowned trawler at Charfasson Upazila in Bhola.


Fisherman killed in trawler capsize

UNB, Bhola

A fisherman was killed and four others went missing after a fishing trawler sank in the Meghna River in Charfasson upazila on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Khorshed.

All the victims hailed from Abdullahpur of the upazila.

Twenty fishermen were returning home after selling hilsa in Barishal markets when their trawler capsized in the river around 1pm, said Ruhul Amin, Charfasson Upazila Nirbahi Officer. Although 15 fishermen managed to swim ashore, the rest went missing, he said.
