Narayan Chandra Shil performs at Nat’l Museum today

Today, Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in Dhaka is organising a music show titled ‘Folk songs of Bangladesh & West Bengal’ by folk singer Narayan Chandra Shil at Kabi Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum in the capital. Born on December 20, 1958 in Noakhali district, Narayan Chandra Shil took his training in music under Ustad Kulendra Das, Abu Taher and Atul Sutradha. He started teaching music at the Noakhali Music School in 1974. In 1980, he joined the folk songs department in Chhayanaut. There he studied folk songs as well as Classical music. He is currently the Director General of Bangladesh Betar and serving as a teacher of Folk music at Chhayanaut.

He is a special grade artiste of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television. He has released two audio albums on classical music. Beside Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, he is regularly participating in live and recorded programme on many private television channels in Bangladesh. In 2008, he recorded 10 folk songs for India’s ‘Maitri Channel’.
