New BCL leaders talk tough against extortion

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) will be made a controversy-free student organization in line with the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, newly appointed BCL leaders said at a press briefing at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University yesterday. They came up with the remakes while speaking at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen in Dhaka University. BCL acting president Al Nahian Khan Joy said, “If we get evidence of extortion or tender rigging against any BCL activist, we will take action against him or her instantly”.

BCL acting general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee said, “The big challenge we are going to face is to form committees and arrange BCL’s next council within 10 months”. “We will take Chhatra League to a stage beyond controversy so that no journalist can report any negative facts against us,” he added. Lekhak further said, “We will make BCL united under a single banner. There will be no culture of a specific leader-centric politics. We will try to strengthen the hands of Sheikh Hasina.”

“Our first priority will be to deal with all the allegations against Shovon and Rabbani and work so that no complaints can be made against us”, said Lekhak.

He also sought the cooperation of senior Awami League leaders, law enforcement agencies and media personalities to “run the BCL properly” efficiently.

Regarding the deprived leaders from the central committee, he said, “We called them to place their allegations direct to us. We will definitely do justice to the students for all their dedication and sacrifices.”

Lekhak said that they would not repeat the mistakes that the previous BCL president and secretary were charged with. “Before appointing a leader at in any level, we will scrutinize all his information and also take the help of the detective branch of police if needed,” he added.
