Coach Jamie hopes to get positive
result against Afghanistan

Bangladesh national football team head coach Jamie Day had an unofficial press meet yesterday at a hotel in the capital when he shared his observation about some of the players of his squad, played in the AFC Cup for Abahani Limited on Wednesday.

Jamie Day was very pleased to watch and see the Abahani’s success when he said, “It was pleasing to see (Abahani’s win) as Sohel’s (Sohel Rana) goal was a very good goal. That will give them confidence coming into the camp. Jibon’s goal was also good for striker. Hopefully the Abahani players played yesterday will get confidence from there that they can compete other teams in Asia.”

Jamie, so far was happy with the performance of the national team’s players, like Jibon, Sohel Rana and Saad Uddin and he also commented on goalkeeping and about recalling Mazharul Islam in the squad.

Jamie first all replying to a query about including goalkeeper Himel in the 27 men squad said, “I want to have three goalkeepers all time, so if one gets injury the rest two will go to Tajikistan. I said before I like to say Himel  has done very well. We can’t carry four goalkeepers but I want also Himel in the camp until August 31. The goalkeeping coach will assess four keepers before finalizing the three.”

About Shahidul Alam Sohel’s keeping in the AFC Cup against Korean team Jamie said, “Sohel is a good goalkeeper but sometime he makes mistakes, not consistence, any goalkeeper can do mistakes but he (Sohel) could have done better for the third goal. Rana is more consistent this season.”

“Jibon, Sohel, Saad all the players played last night made some mistakes. It was part of the game but they did well,” Jamie said about the forwards.

Jamie also explained about his plan with the team before  going to Tajikistan, “First week will back into routine, fitness and concentrate on more what we need to do. We are very excited and looking forward to it. We have three weeks to get everything right before Afghanistan game and gets a positive result. The second week will have more demand in tactical side.”

Bangladesh will go to Tajikistan to play against Afghanistan in the World Cup 2022 qualifiers’ away game when they will have to play the match on Astroturf but Bangladesh team is habituated to play in the natural turf.

Jamie said, “We will mainly practice at the Bangabandhu National Stadium and then when we will go to Tajikistan we can use their Astroturf for 5 to 6 days where we are going to play and get us ready for the match. We will prepare best to get a positive result.”
