Partex Group, bus terminal among entities fined Tk 9 lakh

Dhaka city corporation authorities yesterday conducted anti-Aedes mosquito drives against business establishments and buildings and realized fines worth 9.28 lakh taka. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fined the Partex Group and the Mohakhali bus terminal authorities Tk 7 lakh as Aedes mosquito larvae were found within their compounds in Mohakhali area of the capital. A mobile court of the DNCC handed Partex Group Tk 2 lakh fine as Aedes larva were found in its Mohakhali head office. DNCC Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar issued the fine. Moreover, the atmosphere in Partex head office was also found favorable for Aedes breeding.   

Another DNCC mobile court fined Mohakhali bus terminal authorities Tk 5 lakh as Aedes larvae were found inside abandoned tires on their premises. DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam was present during the drive. The mayor said, “Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs inside such tires.

I warned them to remove these tires 15 days ago. But they have not paid heed to me. Therefore, the terminal authorities has been fined with TK 5,00,000,” said Atiqul Islam.

“The city corporation staff will visit houses in each area during the combing operation. Actions will be taken if Aedes larvae are found. We’ll also conduct drives at

all bus terminals, hospitals and police outpost,”

he added.  

Mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) conducted separate drives in the capital’s Nayapaltan, Segunbagicha, Topkhana, Dhanmondi, and Jatrabari and fined owners of nine buildings Tk 2.28 lakh as Aedes

breeding grounds were found on their premises.

Uttam Kumar Roy, public relations officer of the DSCC, said Aedes larvae were found in nine buildings including Eastern View in Nayapaltan and an under-construction site of S Farm in Dhanmondi.

The DSCC will also conduct cleanliness drive led by Mayor Sayeed Khokon at Dhaka Medical College Hospital premises tomorrow, the official added.

The drives by the city corporations were conducted as per Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2009.
