Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar arrives today

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will arrive in Dhaka today to discuss various bilateral issues between the two friendly countries. Foreign ministry sources said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will receive his counterpart at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 9:30 pm. During his two-day maiden visit to Bangladesh, Jaishankar will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Later, Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks with Momen at state guest house Jamuna tomorrow to shade lights on various bilateral issues including trade and investment, Rohingya issues, trans-boundary rivers, border issues and so on. Before leaving Dhaka, Jaishankar is also expected to visit Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the capital. Though this is the first visit of Jaishankar as external affairs minister, he came to Dhaka several times as foreign secretary.

Momen and Jaishankar met in June on the sidelines of the 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia or CICA in Tajikistan. Sources said that though it is a regular meeting between the two countries on the ministerial level, it will have much importance as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has a visit to India to attend India Economic Summit of the World Economic Forum with the theme “Innovating for India: Strengthening South Asia, Impacting the World” to be held in New Delhi on October 3-4.
