While senior players are enjoying Eid vacation, Bangladesh Emerging Cricket Team has started honing their skills and techniques for the upcoming home series against visiting Sri Lanka Emerging Cricket Team.

The visitors have already arrived here in Dhaka yesterday to play the series, starting on August 18.

Arranged by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as a part of preparation for the ensuing Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Teams Asia Cup, the series comprising of three one-day matches coupled with two four-day outings.

At the national academy of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Team (SBNCS) in Mirpur, head coach Simon Helmot supervised the first session of the BCB-High Performance (HP) with the help of the local coaches including Champaka Ramanayaka, Dipu Rai Choudhury, Jafrul Ahsan, Saiful Islam, Golam Murtaza and Nasir Ahmed Nasu.

Uprising all-rounders Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, wicketkeeper-bastman Zakir Hasan, batsman Yasir Ali Rabbi and Nayeem Hasan were there for practice. The bulk of the mentioned players barring Rabbi have an experience to represent for the national colour. Rabbi toured with the Tigers during the triangular series in Ireland before the ICC Cricket World Cup-2019 in United Kingdom (UK).

Along with them, some other talented players including Shafiqul Islam, Robiul Islam, Shahidul Islam and Yeasir Arafat Mishu were also seen grinding their bowling skills at net against the batsmen. Braving the vapid warm, they were batting, fielding and bowling along with wicket-keeping by rotation.

After their maiden practice session, Nazmul Hossain Shanto spoke to media where he informed that he is now focusing more on his next games of Emerging team.

But he admitted that his return to the national fold is working in the back of the mind but the selection is not in his hand.

“All the players are in games. All are in touch if we think as preparation-wise. Some of our players played for ‘A’ team and some went to tour to India. So, I think we are in good stead as preparation-wise,” said Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who was announced captain of the Bangladesh Emerging Cricket Team.

“At that time, two-three of my innings had been done bad. But I am not worried about that. I have not lost my confidence. I’m now working on why it did not work at that time. So, I’m trying to make runs regularly where I play at every series and tournament. I hope if I could get the chance again, I’ll try to capitalise it,” Shanto told media at the BCB-National Cricket Academy Ground in Mirpur yesterday. “The entire matter of selection is not in my hand. So, I don’t think much about it. As of now, I am in High Performance (HP) team, who has games ahead against Sri Lanka. I believe if I can do well here and selectors think about me then I can get a chance. I’ve no expectation that I will go there. I’m thinking about how I can play better cricket and make big runs,” he added.
