Zadran powers Afghanistan A
to 2nd win

Visiting Afghanistan ‘A’ continued their winning run when they beat Bangladesh ‘A’ by 4 wickets in the second match of five-match unofficial ODI series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.

Chasing a modest target of 279, Ibrahim Zadran smashed an impressive 127 off 149 deliveries that contained seven fours as many as sixes that single-handedly took the match away from the hosts and gave them the lead of 2-0 in the 5-match series.

Bangladesh ‘A’ bowlers though bowled well until 43 overs by taking wickets at regular intervals without leaking too much runs that could not stop the losing streak as the visiting side chased down the target with four wickets in hand and five balls to spare. The hosts laid themselves down conceding 84 runs in the last 6.1 overs.

Sharafuddin Ashraf, who produced a cameo at the end, played an important role for the visitors. He remained unbeaten on 36 off just 17 deliveries.

Put into bat, the hosts got off to a descent start after Imrul Kayes and Anamul Haque laid a solid foundation for the hosts with a 56-run opening stand inside mandatory powerplay. Later, Anamul fell to Nasir Jamal off Karim Janat after 9 overs, scoring 26 runs off 24 balls. Bangladesh ‘A’ skipper Mithun then joined Kayes and built another 42 for the second-wicket stand before the latter was given LBW on 40 when the team’s total was on 98.

Following the openers’ departure, the hosts held their nerves to carry the momentum and put a defendable total on the board. It was coming out nicely for them after Mithun got ample support from the other end and built a crucial 97 with Mohammad Naim for the third-wicket stand.
