Four noted personalities to be recalled today

To remember 45 prominent poets, litterateurs and artistes of the country, a month-long commemorative event titled ‘Smriti Swatta Bhabisshat’ is being held on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital.

BSA, in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, has organised the month-long programme paying tribute to the veterans.

As a part of the event, eminent Bengali musicians Kamal Das Gupta and Nazrul Sangeet singer Feroza Begum will be remembered today at 6 pm at the National Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of BSA.

On the other hand, remembering eminent playwright, theatre activist Selim Al Deen and filmmaker Subhash Dutta another programme will be held at the Studio Theatre Hall of BSA.

Presided over by Dr Biswajit Ghosh, Golam Shafiq and Salim Mojahar will deliver speeches on Selim Al Deen, while Dr Lutfar Rahman will read an essay.

Presided over by Motin Rahman, Faridur Rahman and Sajedul Awal will deliver speeches on Subhash Dutta and Abir Shrestha will read out an essay.

After the discussion, Jahangirnagar University will stage Selim Al Deen’s play ‘Dhaboman’ at 8 pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of BSA.

As a part of the commemorative event ‘Smriti Swatta Bhabisshat’, Subhash Dutta-directed full-length feature film titled ‘Sutorang’ will be screened today at 6:30 pm at the International Digital Cultural Archive of BSA. Dutta played the male lead role as well. Actress Kabori Sarwar made her debut in this film. The film won the second prize in Frankfurt Asia Film in 1964.
