Andre Russell ruled out of World Cup

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out of 2019 ICC World Cup due to his persistent knee problems. Sunil Ambris has been named as the replacement in the 15-man squad.

Russell, who struggled with the injury throughout the tournament, managed to play only four games. After a stellar bowling performance in West Indies' opening encounter against Pakistan, the all-rounder failed to make an impact with either bat or ball. He scored 36 runs in three innings and bagged five wickets in four games.

Ambris, who made his ODI debut in September 2017 - against England - has played only six ODIs. However, last month, he cracked his career-best score of 148 in the Ireland tri-series. Ambris did so as an opening batsman, and including him in the World Cup squad also serves to cover for Evin Lewis, who hurt his hamstring in the match against New Zealand.Cricbuzz.
