Ibrahim Saber passes away

Former national hockey star and national award-winning sportsperson Ibrahim Saber died of old-age complication at his own residence in the capital city yesterday. He was 74.

He left behind wife, two sons and a daughter to condole his death.

Saber was a member of victorious Pakistan Hockey Team in Barcelona World Cup in 1971. He played for the Pakistan national hockey team in 1970s before the independence of Bangladesh. He also played in the German Hockey League. He was one of the famous trio- Sadek-Mohsin-Saber in Bangladesh hockey after the post independence period of Bangladesh. The veteran represented Bangladesh in the Asian Games held in Dhaka in 1978.

He was dexterous not only in hockey but in cricket and basketball also. The veteran all-rounder was rewarded with the national sports award.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) general secretary AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed, senior vice-president Abdur Rashid Sikdar and other federation officials expressed their deep condolence at the death of the hockey ex-star player.
