28 collect nominations 
on first day; BCL, JCD 
yet to collect papers

Nomination papers collection for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union polls began yesterday. A total of 28 candidates collected nominations from respective their halls and it will continue till February 25.  Ruling Awami League (AL) backed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Progressive Student Alliance (PSA) and are yet to collect nomination forms yesterday. BCL central president Rezwanul Haque Choudhury Shovon said, “We will collect papers before deadline. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will sit with us to make final decision. We will finalise panel based on PM decision.”

JCD DU unit president Al Mehedi Talukder said, “We are yet to collect nomination papers. We pressed our demand today (Tuesday) and will wait till VC’s decision in this regard. “We will announce our next programme after February 25 based on VC’s decision”, he added.

Convenor of PSA DU unit president also president of Socialist Students front (SSF) DU unit Salman Siddiqi said, “None of our body collected forms. we are still discussing about this. Hopefully, We will collect after confirming panel”.

Central leaders of Islami Shasontantra Chhatra Andolon (ISCA) yesterday collected their nomination papers for DUCSU VP and GS post. ISCA central leader SM Ata Rabbi will run for VP post and Mahmudul Hasan for GS post. Candidates can submit nomination papers till 12 noon on February 26. The papers would be scrutinised from 2 pm on February 26 while nomination papers can be withdrawn till 1 pm of March 2. DUCSU polls is scheduled to be held on March 11.
