One held over Notre Dame University student murder

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday arrested a girl in connection with the murder of a student of Notre Dame University Bangladesh. RAB sources said the detainee identified as Sabita, 26, was detained from the capital’s Mugda area. RAB-3 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Imranul Hasan disclosed the matter at a press briefing at its media centre in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar area yesterday.

Police on February 12 recovered the body of Eyogene Hensy Gonsalves, 22, BBA student of the university from a flat. He was found dead inside an apartment at Sabujbagh-Kadamtala area in the capital. The victim’s body bore 15 stab marks. After the incident, police collected CCTV footages of a nearby building. RAB found one of the girls, clad in burka, was seen in the footages accompanying Eyogene to the flat around 3:30pm on the day of the incident.

From the building owner Tabassum Mehjabin, RAB got informed that a girl identifying herself as Sabita rented the flatl and and paid Tk 5,000 in advance. From Tabassum the elite force learnt that on the murder day Sabita introduced Eyogene to Tabassum as her (Sabita) brother.

 “And Sabita wanted to move in with her family in February but it was being delayed for some family issues. Sabita and another woman, who she (Sabita) said was her mother, brought some old furniture to the flat”, Tabassum disclosed to RAB.
