JU teachers for stopping ragging

A group of teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) urged the university authorities to take immediate measures to stop ragging on the campus. The anti-VC platform under the banner of ‘Sammilita Sikkhak Samaj’ placed their demand at a press conference at the dean office of Mathematical and Physical Science faculty yesterday afternoon.  Newly elected President of  JUTA Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder said, “Freshers of JU are being harassed physically and mentally in the name of ragging by the senior students. Though some hall provosts took initiatives in this regard, their initiatives went in vain due to lack of support from the central university authorities.”

“We have decided that we will continue to visit the dormitories at night on the arrival of the freshers on the campus,” he added. The teachers’ group also denounced the recent clash between two factions of Chhatra League on the campus where different types of firearms were used. Besides, they urged the university authorities to stop the recruitment of fresh teachers until the election of different unelected posts is held on the campus. Professor Sohel Rana, Professor Kaushik Shaha, Professor Shamsul Alam, Professor Nurul Islam and Professor Alamgir Kabir were present .
