DPL T20 likely to start Feb 25

The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) is planning to orgainse another Twenty20 Cricket Tournament for the country’s premier cricket after they successfully arranged Dhaka First Division T20 Cricket Tournament.

The maiden edition of the T20 cricket tournament is likely to kick off on February 25 ahead of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. The tournament will be named after Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament-2019.

Amin Khan, coordinator of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) made the disclosure to The Independent at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur yesterday.   

“We had plans to arrange another Twenty20 Cricket Tournament for the premier cricket after being hosted Dhaka First Division T20 Cricket Tournament successfully. The tournament we have planned to start prior to the looming edition of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL),” said Amin Khan.

“All the 12 participating club’s teams will take part in the tournament, which is being organized as a part of the preparation for the local players so that they could perform well in the Dhaka Premier League,” Khan told this reporter before going to a meeting at the BCB management office of the SBNCS in Mirpur.

“We had planned to host such kind of tournament for so long. This year we are implementing one after another. The tournament will be held with the participation of the local players only,” he added.

It is learnt from Amin Khan that 12 participating clubs’ teams, splitting four groups, will take part in the week-long tournament. Each group champion team will advance to the semi-final berths.

The winners of the semi-finals will play the final of the DPL T20 Cricket Tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur in the first week of the March.
