Eight-year-old girl ‘raped’ in capital

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour from Agargaon area in the capital yesterday. Police has arrested a suspect on allegations of raping the child from the area. The arrestee has been identified as Razzak (45) who was held West Agargaon, said police.

Zanea Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station confirmed the matter and said that they arrested Razzak after receiving the complaint. “The victim has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s (DMCH) One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) for medical examination,” said the OC.

About Razzak the OC said that he is a musician of Bangladesh Betar as he (Razzak) claimed that himself. However, police were verifying the identity card submitted by the detainee, OC Alam said.

As the case statement, the victim’s parents who are roadside vendors of rice and curry, were not present at their residence. “Taking advantage of their absence, Razzak lured the minor to his residence and raped her around 11:45am.

At one stage, the child came out with crying from Razzak’s residence and told her mother of the incident,” the OC added.
