French baroque musical show at Shilpakala today

A programme on French baroque music will be held today at 6.30pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.

French musical ensemble Son Ar Mein Consort from France, and Asian University for Women Choir from Chattogram, will perform the pieces of famous French composers Marc-Antoine Charpentier and François Couperin.

The event is organised by Alliance Française de Dhaka and Alliance Française de Chittagong with the support of the Embassy of France in Bangladesh, the Institut Française and Spedidam

From 1650 to 1720, Versailles had become the capital of music in Europe under the patronage of the kings Louis XIV and Louis XV.  Louis XIV was considering music as a symbol of his power and wanted to demonstrate his splendour by dint of composers and their musical works.
