‘All possible steps to be taken to ensure fair elections’

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, who has been made the returning officer for six constituencies, said all possible measures will be taken to ensure free and fair elections in the port city. Abdul Mannan  after a meeting with all the candidates of the city at Chattogram Circuit House said “We are working to conduct elections in impartial and transparent manner.” at the meeting the candidates alleged that they are facing obstacles during election campaign and their rally are being obstructed by the ruling party men.

Abdullah Al Noman, BNP candidate for Chattogram-10, alleged that AL men carried out attack in their procession while police played the role of spectators. BNP leaders and activists are being arrested in false and ‘ghost’ cases, alleged Noman.  Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, Awami League (AL) candidate for Chattogram-9 constituency (Kotwali-Bakalia), alleged some people are discouraging voters especially women about the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who got the BNP ticket from Chattogram-11, said, “Police are arresting people without any arrest warrant. They are harassing BNP-leaders and activists going home at night.”

 Hearing the allegation Abdul Mannan said necessary steps would be taken after investigation. There are 16 parliamentary constituencies in Chattogram, including six in the metropolitan city and 10 in the districts.
