Cities ready to celebrate Victory Day today

The cities of Rajshahi,Rangpur  and Chattogram have worn a festive look as the people will celebrate the Victory Day-2018 yesterday amid huge enthusiasm and fanfare paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.

All sorts of preparation have been completed to celebrate Victory Day in Rajshahi city in a befitting manner and amid much enthusiasm. The city corporation, district administration and different organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.

The programmes include a 31-gun salute, placing of wreaths at the monument and Shaheed Minar of the martyred, hoisting of the national flags atop all public and private buildings, decorating city streets with national flags and colorful posters, and illumination of all public buildings, roads and road islands in the evening.

 RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton will open the daylong programmes by placing wreaths at Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar at zero hour.

BSS says from Chattogram: The people of Chattogram will pay homage to the martyred with a pledge to build a non communal, militancy free, democratic Bangladesh.

In addition to government programmes, different political parties their front organisations, socio-cultural and professional bodies, educational institutions and trade unions have chalked out elaborate programmes including holding rallies, discussions, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to mark the day and pay homage to those glorious persons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War in 1971.

The day’s programme will be heralded by 31-gun fires from the Court Hill at 12.01am and will be followed by wailing of whistles simultaneously from the rail and vessel engines.

The other programmes include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past 12 midnight, hoisting of the national flag atop all buildings at dawn, discussion meetings, bringing out processions, cultural functions, March pasts and reception to the freedom fighters.

Another report adds from Rangpur: Officials in the district administration said the law enforcement agencies have taken adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Victory Day in the city as well as at all upazila headquarters in the district.

The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, freedom fighters, Awami League and other political parties, all educational institutions, sociocultural, professional and business organisations have taken elaborate daylong programmes to celebrate the event.

The observance will begin with a 31-gun salute on Police Lines Ground, placing wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ and hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings at sunrise on Sunday.

City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, Police Super Mizanur Rahman and high officials will first place wreaths.
