Palestine and Tajikistan, two best sides, will face each other in the final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football tournament today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The match will kick off at 5:30pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to be present as chief guest and distribute trophies.

Both the sides deserved to reach the final when Palestine stormed into the final winning all their previous matches with defeating Nepal by 1-0 and defeated Tajikistan by 2-0 in the group stage and eliminated the hosts Bangladesh by 2-0 in the semifinal.

On the other hands, Tajikistan, who began the tournament with 2-0 win against Nepal, suffered 2-0 defeat to today’s opponents Palestine but outclassed Philippines by 2-0 in the semifinal with demonstrating very impressive performance in Cox’s Bazar on their way to final.

However, both the coaches of the finalists looked confident to win the trophy when they were talking in the press meet yesterday at the Bangladesh Football Federation Bhaban yesterday.

Palestine coach Ould Ali, although he is confident of winning the match but expressed some disappointments with tight schedule, “It was good match yesterday. We played the last match yesterday and travel here, it is difficult after one day interval. We had only 36 hours to prepare the team. But our team is highly motivated and team is spirited. Inshallah, hope the players will do their best and will try to win the match. But they (Tajikistan) have two days for recovery.”

Replying to a query ould Ali said, “All players are focusing on this game to win, I can’t say before the game what will be the result. But it will be a tough game tomorrow (today), they are strong sides.”

About Jamie’s quote with the Bangladesh match (Bangladesh played better than Palestine): I respect him (Jamie), but we are better in technique and tactically, we were better in all respects. We read Bangladesh, I know Bangladesh have two strikers No 9 and no 15, but we handled them well, two strikers could not do anything against our four defenders. It is not possible to play full 90 minutes with same rhythm, so opponents can try to bounce back. After 20 minutes, we gave an interval, not possible to give pressure in whole time.”

About win, Ali said, “When you will play the final you will have to win the match. Previous time under me, we played 3-3 in Dushanbe and 2-0 in Palestine but today it will be different match, team yet to reach at hotel.  Mental game will become important. If we would be mentally keep our motivation on high, then we would  win the match.”

About his coaching philosophy,  “Philosophy! Well, if you want to play good game - you should have good organization, discipline, should handle the players in accordance with their ability,” said the Algerian born French coach.

About their win against Palestine in 2006 Tajikistan coach Tukhtaev Alisher said, “It is now a history. Now we are motivated with this tournament in Bangladesh, remembering their win in Bangladesh in 2006 in the Challenge Cup said, “Yes, the ground is lucky for us.”

“We did not play any final in recent time. I respect my opponents, no weak team can come in the final.”

“We will do our best, will try our best to win the match, last match defeat by 2-0, there were some mistakes, we worked on those, overcoming the mistake hopefully we will win the final,” Tukhtaev Alisher said.
