Ragib Ali, son freed on bail

Sylhet: Industrialist Ragib Ali and his son Abdul Hye were freed from jail yesterday after the High Court had granted them six-month bail in a case filed for grabbing the endowment property of Tarapur Tea Estate through forgery, reports UNB.

Senior Jail Superintendent Md Abdul Jalil said the duo was freed from the prison around 5 pm.

Earlier on Monday, the High Court granted their bail following a review petition filed by Ragib Ali's lawyer Abdul Halim Kafi. Sylhet Special Sessions Judges Court on August 9 upheld the 14 years imprisonment of industrialist Ragib Ali and 16 years imprisonment of his son, daughter and two others each in the case. On February 2, 2017, Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate sentenced Ragib Ali to 14 years and 16 years imprisonment to each of his son, daughter and two others in the case.
