3 hurt as bomb hurled at bus

Three women passengers suffered injuries after a bomb was hurled on a bus on the Dhaka-Bogura highway at Sajapur in Shahjahanpur upazila yesterday noon, after the verdict in the August 21 grenade attack case was announced.

The injured are Munira Begum, 40, wife of Nazrul Islam of Shimulbari village in Jhaldhaka upazila, Anjuara Begum, 50, wife of Mozammel Haque of Sadar upazila in Nilphamari district, and Shamima, 27, daughter of Shamsul Haque of village Santinagour under Tangail district.

Md. Zia Latiful Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjahanpur police station, said about eight to 10 miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on the Dhaka-bound ‘Nabil Paribahan’ bus from Nilphamari while it was crossing the area around 12:45pm. Three women passengers were injured. A fire also broke out in the bus following the attack, which was doused immediately.

A police patrol team immediately launched a raid and arrested a Jubadal leader named Nur Mohammad, 31, son of Nur Alam of village Maghira of the upazila.

Md. Arifur Rahman Mondal and Sanatan Kumar Chakrabarti, additional superintendents of police (Bogura), visited the spot. Police have filed a case with Sajahnpur police station in this connection, the OC added.
