14 more colleges nationalised

The government yesterday nationalised at least 14 colleges in different districts as per the assurance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who announced that at least one college will be nationalised in each upazila.

Secondary and higher education division yesterday issued a circular in this regard saying 14 colleges have been nationalised under the ‘Nationalised College Teacher and Employee Absorption Policy 2018’, and it would be effective from 10 September, 2018.

The colleges are Saltha College at Saltha upazila in Faridpur, Teligati Degree College at Atpara in Netrokona, Ishwarganj Degree college at Ishwarganj in Mymensingh, Saikat Degree college at Subarnachar in Noakhali, Rajsthali college at Rajshali in Rangamati, Badaghat degree college at Tahirpur in Sunamganj, Sardah college at Charghat in Rajshahi, Chowhali degree college at Chowhali in Sirajganj, Shahid Sirajuddin Hossain college at Bagharpara in Jessore, M A Majid Degree college at Dighaliya in Khulna, Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Mahila College at Daulatpur in Kushtia, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Ideal College at Tarash in Kushtia, Bheramara Mahila College at Bheramara in Kushtia and Gaibandha college at Gobindaganj in Gaibandha.

In August this year, the government nationalised a total of 271 colleges. Then the number of total government colleges stood at 598. Now adding the 14 colleges, the total government colleges will be 612.
