‘Peshkar’ sentenced to 28yrs in prison

Faridpur: A court here on Tuesday sentenced to 28 years imprisonment a peshkar of a court in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission, reports UNB.

Judge of Faridpur Special Court Hakim Matiur Rahman handed down the verdict and fined Imam Uddin, 45, a peshkar of a mobile court at Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner office, Tk 89.94 lakh, in default, to suffer seven years and 15 days more in rigorous imprisonment.

The court also sentenced Kamala Akter, 38, an office assistant of the DC office and wife of Imam to eight years’ imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000, in failing to serve one and half months more in rigorous imprisonment.

Majibor Rahman, a lawyer of ACC, said the peshkar Imam with collusion of his wife Kamala embezzled Tk 89,94,024 without depositing it at the government treasury.
