HC asks lower court
to dispose of Shahidul bail plea by today

The High Court yesterday ordered the lower court concerned to dispose of a bail petition filed by noted photographer Shahidul Alam seeking bail in connection with a case filed against him under the Information communication and Technology Act. The HC bench comprising Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order.

Earlier on September 4, the HC bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Khandaker Diliurujjaman felt “embarrassed” to hear the bail petition of the photographer Shahidul Alam, who was arrested under the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua, one of the counsels for Shahidul, told The Independent yesterday that after felting embarrassment the HC bench had sent Sahidul’s petition to the Chief Justice for taking a decision on the matter. After receiving the copy of the HC order, the Chief Justice on Sunday sent the petition to the HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman for final disposal.

The bail petition of Shahidul Alam is lying with the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judges for disposal. It was filed before the court on August 14.

Now, the lower court will be hearing the bail petition of Shahidul today and it has to come with an order ‘bail or no bail’ by Tuesday following the HC order, Barua said.
