Committee formed to run public buses through a company

A committee has been formed to run public buses in Dhaka city through a company, a circular issued yesterday by the Local Government Division said. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has been made the convener of the committee while the panel mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) the joint convener. The task at hand of the committee will be to bring discipline in the public transport services, rationalisation of the bus route to lessen the hassle of long traffic tailback and to run the public buses through a commercial company.

The chairmen of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), Rajdhani Unnayan Kortipokkho (Rajuk), Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), public transport expert Dr SM Saleh Uddin, Secretary General of Bangladesh Road Transport Owner’s Association and the President of Bangladesh Road Transport Worker’s Federation—all are the members of the committee.

The executive director of the Dhaka Transport Coordination Agency is made the member secretary of the committee.

According to the agenda of the committee the ideas and plans of the late Anisul Haque, the former mayor of DNCC, will be implemented to create a traffic clog free Dhaka.
