Artist Shahabuddin’s 69th birthday celebration today

Today is the 69th birthday of internationally-acclaimed Bangladeshi artist and freedom fighter Shahabuddin Ahmed. To celebrate his birthday in a befitting banner, multiple programmes have been chalked out by various organisations in the capital.

The main programme of artist Shahabuddin Ahmed’s birthday celebration will be held today at 5pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will attend the celebration programme as the chief guest. Presided over by National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman, Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky and chairman of National Committee to Observe 69th Birthday Anniversary of artist Shahabuddin, Professor Abdul Mannan will deliver speeches at the programme.  

A documentary by Indian journalist Ajoy Roy will be screened at the programme. Besides, cultural programme will also be held as a part of birthday celebration of artist Shahabuddin.

On the occasion of birthday celebration of artist Shahabuddin, a press conference held yesterday at the seminar room of BSA’s National Theatre Hall. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman of National Committee to Observe 69th Birthday Anniversary of artist Shahabuddin, highlighted the life and work of artist Shahabuddin at the event. Among others, Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Dhaka University; artist Moniruzzaman, Anyaprokash publisher Mazharul Islam and BSA Director Soharab Hossain were present.

BSS adds:  An artist camp and children’s drawing competition were held on September 9 marking the 69th birth anniversary of internationally-acclaimed Bangladeshi artist and freedom fighter Shahabuddin Ahmed.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and National Committee to Observe 69th Birthday Anniversary of artist Shahabuddin jointly observed the programmes at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University.

Prominent artists of the country participated in the camp.

Many students of various educational institutions of the capital participated in the drawing competition held on Fine Art premises.

The topics of the competition were ‘Our Liberation War’ and ‘Our Liberation War and Shahabuddin Ahmed’.

Ashraful Alam Paplu, director of Department of Fine Art, BSA inaugurated the competition.

While addressing the programme, he said, “The 69th birthday of Shahabuddin Ahmed who represents Bangladesh through his art works, is on September 11. The Artist camp and the drawing competition were organised to present his life and work to the new generation.”
