Shifting of court protested in Bhola

Members of District Bar Association formed a human chain in Bhola yesterday protesting and order for shifting the additional district and sessions judge’s court from Bhola Sadar to remote Charfassion upazila.

Lawyers alleged that some politicians issued the ‘unjustified’ order by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for their personal interests.

They demanded immediate cancellation of the order for the interest of 18 lakh people of seven upazilas of the district. They also threatened tougher action if their demand is not met.

Among others, Advocate Mozammel Hoque, Jahangir Alam, Asraf Hossain Labu, M  Shajahan, Basir Ullah spoke during the human chain.

8 held for attacks on religious minority member in Jashore

Benapole: Police on Sunday arrested eight people in a case filed over carrying out attack, loot and vandalise the house of a religious minority member at Gilapol village in Sharsha upazila in Jashore, reports UNB.

A gang of miscreants namely Milon Bahini demanded extortion fromSolmonDas, son of Juran Das of Gilapol village, said Aynal Haque, chairman of Ulashi Union Parishad.

The gang members, carrying sharp weapons, attacked Solmon’s house on Saturday night and vandalized all of the furniture, beat up women members of the family and looted large amount of cash, gold jewelries and cell phones from there as he failed to provide the extortion money.

The members of Milon Bahini also threatened the family not to inform law enforcers regarding the attack.

Later on Sunday morning, a case was filed accusing 17 people with Sharsha Police Station, said M Moshiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Missing man found dead

Bagerhat: Police recovered the body of a man, who went missing on Thursday, from a fish enclosure in Machuarkul village of Chitalmari upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 55, son ofHemaetHossain, of Melarkul village in the upazila.

After spotting the body in a fish enclosure, locals informed the police, said Anukul Chandra Sarker, officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

Three held over ‘gang rape’

Laxmipur: Police arrested three young men on Sunday afternoon in connection with the reported gang rape of a teenage girl in Dasherhat Madrasa area of the sadar upazila, reports UNB. The arrestees are Md Sabuj, 20, son of Siraz Uddin, Rifat, 20, son of Md Alam, Kamrul, 21, son of Ilias Mistri of Saidpur village in the upazila.

Five young men intercepted the victim on her way to his madrasa and took her to an abandoned house where they violated her in turns, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station.

They fled the scene immediately after the incident leaving her unconscious. Later, locals rescued her and took her to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital in serious condition. Later, a case was filed with Chandraganj Police Station in this connection, said the OD. Meanwhile, the three detainees confessed of their involvement with the incident, he added.

26 arrested in Habiganj

HABIGANJ: Police arrested 26 persons including 17 wanted accused and nine accused in regular cases from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 9am yesterday morning, reports BSS.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl.SP) A S M Shamsur Rahman Bhuiyan said, they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
