Tigers rely on senior players’
expertise on UAE condition

Bangladesh banks on the senior players’ expertise on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) condition as the simmering heat of the country seems to give the side a torrid period in terms of coping with the condition.

The senior players like Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad have gained some knowledge on the condition given their experience after playing in Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the last two years but for others of the team the condition might be a concern.

“The heat there is unbearable but I think our players are aware of that. Our senior players like Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiur, Mahmudullah have been playing in PSL for the last two or three years. They know how to deal with the condition and I think the others can gain good knowledge on the condition from them,” said chief selector  Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

Fresh from playing in Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Mahmudullah Riyad said dealing with the scorching heat which sometimes exceeded 45 degree would be important factor. Nevertheless he believed as a professional team, they shouldn’t be much tensed about it.

“The condition is almost like us in UAE but the heat will be important (to deal with). But we are professional players. We have to cope with the condition,” Riyad told the reporters ahead of Bangladesh’s departure to UAE yesterday night.

Riyad who came back to country from the West Indies for a day only to spend the time with his family said the team oozed with confidence to do well in the Asia Cup due to their grand success in Caribbean Island in which they won ODI and T20 series.

“If we talk about confidence, I would say we are going to UAE with huge confidence. We have played well in West Indies and won ODI and T20 series which boosted our confidence,” he said.

“If we talk about Asia Cup, I would say last time we had a good outing in Asia Cup. We played in the final twice. So we are confident this time around. At the same time, we kept in mind that every team in Asia Cup is good team and playing well. So every match is important for us and we have to play well in every match.”

Riyad, one of the important cogs of the ‘Fab Five’ urged his teammates not to be complacent because of their recent success.

“There is no scope to be relaxed. Whatever the team is—be Afghanistan or Sri Lanka, we have to bring up with our best. Playing well against every team is important.”

“The likes of me, Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim played in Dubai earlier and we knew the condition well but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that how we can apply well ourselves in the match day. That will be important factor.”

Bangladesh will start the campaign of their Asia Cup, having taken on Sri Lanka on September 15. Riyad believe that Sri Lanka will have the edge over them because of playing in Dubai regularly.
