No experiment with Asia Cup team, says Minhaj

Minhajul Abedin Nannu

The squad Bangladesh named for the upcoming Asia Cup is their best squad as Minhajul Abedin Nannu said that they have no intention to make any experiment in their Asia Cup team.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection panel chairman, Nannu, also said that they will go to United Arab Emirates (UAE) for playing their best cricket if they could start a solid start, they will have every possibility to go through the tournament further.

“We have no thinking to conduct any experiment in Asia Cup at this moment,” Minhajul Abedin Nannu said.

“We will let our best team play in Asia Cup. We will not do any experiment in the squad,” Nannu told media at his residence in the capital yesterday.

“The squad we have given for the Asia Cup, that’s our best and final team, I think,” he added.

There are some injury concerns in the squad but Minhajul said that the report they have received from the physio and the trainer, according to that, the team is 100 percent fit for the tournament.

“The report of physio and trainer we have in our hands, according to it, the entire team is 100 percent fit for the games of the Asia Cup,” he said.

“All are confident. It’s a big tournament what our team is going to play and if we could start the tournament with victory over Sri Lanka in the first match, we could be gone a long way,” he thought.

BCB already included batsman Mominul Haque as the 16th member of the Tigers’ squad.  Nannu said clarifying the reason behind Mominul’s inclusion in squad and said that he has been taken as back-up player from the idea of the players’ injury.

“Mominul Haque has been taken keeping the injuries of Tamim Iqbal and (Nazmul Hossain) Shanto, who sustained injury on his right-hand index finger, in mind. Shanto may be needed for five more days to be completely fit,” he thought.

“Along with Shanto, Tamim Iqbal has an old pain on his finger but he has no problem in physio’s report. If any problem emerges during the tournament, in that sense, a back-up player may be needed. So, Mominul Haque has been taken,” he viewed.

When asked about injury around Shakib Al Hasan, the chief selector said that they are yet to receive any such report from physio about Shakib.

“It’s not important what is told outside the team. As physio told he is fit hundred percent, so there is nothing to be worried or concern for us. It would be better if he could be well in the games,” Nannu, who is also a former captain, said.

“We’ve no news about Shakib’s issue. Many more talks are being held around his surgical operation. We didn’t get any update from doctor. We know that he is fit to play games. Hopefully he could play throughout the tournament,” he told in response to a query.

“We are thinking about our whole team. Injury is a part of game. It may come at any time. In our physio report, we have no worse news. Those who have injuries are gradually recovering. In that sense, we are confident. Hopefully we will do well in tournament,” Minhajul said, signing off.
