Two held over giving fake addresses for passports

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Wednesday evening arrested two persons allegedly for giving fake addresses for obtaining passports from Ataikhola of Pabna district, reports BSS.

 “We arrested two persons, Saidul Islam, 28, and Abdur Rob, 38, on charges of giving fake addresses to obtain passports, from Ataikhola of Pabna district,” said an official release. The arrestees are members of an organized gang of preparing passports on fake addresses; he said adding that they recovered seven passports from their possessions. Legal action was taken to this end.

5 ‘terrorists’ held in Gazipur

GAZIPUR: Police detained five alleged terrorists from Sinabo area under Kaliakaor upazila of the district Wednesday night, reports BSS.

The detainees were identified as Limon, Firoj, Anowar, Rubel and Jahangir.

Police said, being informed, they conducted a raid at a resort in Sinabo area around 3 pm in the upazila and arrested the alleged terrorists with a pistol, one bullet and 900 pieces of yaba tablets. They also seized a private car. Of them, Limon alias Nion is accused of at least 14 cases with Kaliakaor Thana. They were sent to jail, the police added.

Fugitive Jamaat leader held in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Chattogram district police arrested a fugitive leader of Jamaat-e-Islami on charges filed for possessing explosive, conducting sabotage acts and assault on police from different area under Satkhania thana early yesterday, reports BSS.

The detainee was identified as Kamal Uddin, 32, son of Abdul Motalab, hailed from Euchia village under Satkania upazila of the district.

The arrested person was possessing explosive and conducted sabotage acts and assault on police during Jamaat-Shibir’s countrywide arson and sabotages in 2014.

Several cases were pending with Satkhania thana against him, said Rofiqul Hossain, officer in charge of Satkhania thana police. He was handed over to court, the OC added.

One held with counterfeit Indian rupee

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a person along with a huge quantity of fake Indian currency worth about Taka 15.74 lakh from Shyamoli area in the capital in wee hours of yesterday, reports BSS.

 “We arrested one Md Shamsur Rahman, 44, of Shibganj of Chapainawabganj district and seized a huge quantity of fake Indian currency equivalent to

Taka 15.74 lakh from Shyamoli area around 3am yesterday,” senior assistant police super (media) Md Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan told BSS yesterday. The arrestee has been involved in producing fake currency for the last five years, he also said. Legal action was taken to this end.

BSTI fines Tk 5.41 lakh in Rajshahi, Rangpur

RAJSHAHI:  Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI)  penalised 23 shops over Tk 5.41 lakh in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions in August this year for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items.

Seventeen mobile courts of the BSTI Rajshahi regioal office in association with local administration conduced drives in different parts of the two divisions and found the shops selling substandard food items, violating the set rules and regulations. The courts also realised Taka 5.41 lakh from the shop owners during the drives conduced in eight districts under the divisions.

BSTI Director (Rajshahi) Engineer Selim Reza said the regional office conducted the drives against the shops involved in manufacturing substandard and adulterated food items. Such drives will continue in future, he said.

The BSTI regional office also conducted 16 surveillance drives for prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement and formalin use in fruit and fish.
