Low in NW Bay intensifies into depression

The well-marked low in northwest Bay and its adjoining area intensified into a depression yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. It may move  towards the Odisha and West Bengal coast causing rain. The low may either turn into a deep depression and a land depression or peter out in the Bay, the Met Office said. Under its impact during the conversion from a low pressure area on Wednesday into a well-marked low, it whipped up convulsions in the Bay with high winds, making navigation difficult. The Met Office asked the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to raise local cautionary signal no. 3. The ports were advised to keep the LC no.3 hoisted and fishing boats in the north Bay were told to keep close to the coast, negotiate the sea cautiously and not to sail towards the deep sea until further notice.
