4 to die for killing driver in Bagerhat

A court yesterday awarded death sentence to four people and two-year imprisonment to another person in a case filed over the murder of a human-hauler driver at Bhattabaliaghat village in Sadar upazila in 2013, reports UNB.

Judge of the Bagerhat Additional District and Session's Court Md Hafizur Rahman delivered the verdict and fined the condemned convicts Tk 20,000 each.

The condemned convicts were identified as Sohagh Fakir, 28, Ibrahim Mollah, 27, Mizan Miah, 28, and Ismail Mollah, 33.

Joynal Gazi, 35, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in the murder case.  Of the convicts, Sohagh and Ibrahim were present in the dock while the rest were tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, the convicts strangulated Mamun Mollah, 20, a Nosimon driver, to death before taking away his three-wheeler on September 1 in 2013. After failing to find the victim, his family filed a general diary with Sadar Bagerhat Police Station on September 9. After 10 months on July 10, 2014, victim's father filed a murder case against the convicts. Later, police arrested Ibrahim and Sohagh from Narayanganj district and they confessed to killing Mamun.
