Govt to create 74
new posts in EC

The government is going to strengthen the capacity of the Election Commission (EC) ahead of the next national polls. For this purpose, the authorities concerned are going to create 74 new posts in different categories for the field offices and training institute of the commission, according to sources. The EC Secretariat has already sent a proposal to the public administration ministry in this regard, say the sources. Among these new posts, there will be one post of joint secretary, three posts of deputy secretary, nine posts of senior assistant secretary, nine posts of administrative officers and four posts of personnel officer at the EC offices.

Talking to The Independent, a senior official of the EC secretariat said that the posts would be created on a temporary basis before the next parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held in December this year. “These new posts will be created as we suffer from

paucity of manpower,” he added. “We want to prepare both the central and field offices of the EC for holding the next election in a peaceful manner,” the official said.

Sources say the public administration ministry has already given the green signal to the proposal of creating the posts.

Now, the proposal will be placed before the next meeting of the Secretary Committee on Administrative Improvement Affairs, according to

sources.

After getting the committee's approval, the ministry concerned will issue a

gazette notification on creating the posts and the commission will complete the appointment process before the national election.

The EC has started the process of holding the parliamentary election in December in a credible and peaceful manner.
