Cop among 3 on remand for peddling yaba

CHATTOGRAM: A court here on Tuesday placed three people including a sub-inspector of police who were arrested on charges of peddling yaba on two-day-remand, reports UNB.

Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Shahidulla Kaisar passed the order after the investigation officer of the case produced the accused before the court seeking seven-day-remand, said Bijon Kumar Barua, court inspector of the district police.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive on Friday detained sub-inspector Md Badruddoza Mahmud of Chattogram Police Lines for his alleged involvement in drug trading.

The policeman was detained following a confessional statement of truck driver one Md Moktar, 24, and his helper Md Sobuj Prakash Babu, 19, said RAB-7 senior assistant director (media) Mimtanur Rahman.

The truck driver and his helper were arrested early Friday along with 29,285 pieces of yaba, he added.

Acting on a tip-off, the RAB members intercepted a pick-up van from nearby Redwan Petrol Pump in Mirsharai upazila and recovered the yaba pills from inside a file-cabinet, which was being taken to the Dhaka residence of SI Badruddoza, said the RAB official.

Meanwhile, SI Badruddoza was detained in Khulshi police station, said additional deputy commissioner Shakila Sultana of CMP’s public order management department.
