150 students join youth camp in China

A youth camp with participation of 150 students from Bangladesh began yesterday in China as a part of ongoing efforts to increase Dhaka-Beijing relationship through exchange of cultural programme. The camp is being organised in line with one of the MOUs, signed between the two countries during the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Dhaka in 2016, says a press release.

Under the MOU, Chinese government has decided to invite 600 Bangladeshi youth students to visit China in four years from 2017 to 2020.

After the first camp of its kind in 2017, this is the second time the youth camp is being organised by Yunnan University and Confucius Institute at North South University (NSU), also co-organised by Confucius Institute at University of Dhaka and China Radio International and Shanto-Mariam Foundation (CRI-SMF) Confucius Classroom in Dhaka.

Vice President of Yunnan University Zhaug Li inaugurated the camp at Library Hall on the university premises.

He said the Bangladesh-China youth camp will increase people to people contact of the two countries that will help realize both the countries golden dream. Later, the participating Bangladeshi students staged a cultural show with traditional songs and dance of China. Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh and Confucius Institute Headquarters are funding the youth camp.

Online application deadline for DU convocation extended

The time of online application process for participating in the 51st convocation of Dhaka University (DU) has been extended to September 4.

Earlier, the deadline of the process was 12 am on September 2.

The applicants, who have completed their graduation or post graduation, can apply through online till the banking time of September 4 to attend the 51st convocation of the university to be held on October 06, 2018. The applicants are asked to visit the university website (http://convocation.du.ac.bd) for detailed information.

RU online application process begins

Online application process for admission into honours courses at Rajshahi University under the academic session 2018-2019 began on Monday.

Rajshahi University information and communication centre director Khademul Islam Molla inaugurated the application process at the university’s ICT centre at 12pm.

Professor Khademul Islam Molla said that the online application process will continue till 12:00am on September 12 while the admission tests will be held in October 22-23.

Admission seekers can register themselves on the university admission website, www.admission.ru.ac.bd, using their Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examination roll numbers for a fee of Tk 55.

Detailed information about the admission processes were available on the university website. Students who bagged a combined SSC and HSC grade point average score of 7.0 (with additional subject) in 2017 and 2018 will be eligible to apply for admission under the humanities group while those with a combined GPA of 7.50 (with additional subject) will be eligible to register under the business faculty.

Students who secured a combined GPA of 8.0 (with additional subject) will be eligible to register for admission under the science group.

This year, university authorities would allow only 32,000 students to sit for the admission tests under each of the five units based on their combined GPA scores.

‘The list of eligible students will be published on September 16’, Professor Khademul Islam Molla added. According to the university registrar office sources, applicants have to pay a registration fees of Tk 1254 for A unit (arts and fine faculties), Tk 726 for B unit (business studies faculty and IBA), Tk 1254 for C unit (science and engineering faculties), Tk 990 for D unit (life and earth science and agriculture faculties), and Tk 1122 for E unit (social science and law faculties) using Dutch Bangla Mobile Banking application.
