RU starts admission forms sale

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday began application forms sale for admission to first year honours courses under its academic 2018-19 session, an official said. The aspirants can collect and submit the online-based preliminary application forms until 12 midnight on September 12 next. Admission test will be held on October 22 and 23. Professor Khademul Islam, Director of RU ICT Centre, told newsmen that the students will have to complete their application process on RU’s website www.ru.ac.bd.

The interested students have been asked to collect and submit their application forms with payment of Tk 55 each through only online. The tests will be held under five units. The units are – A unit (Arts and Fine arts faculty), B unit (Business Studies and Business Administration Institute), C unit (comprises of Science and Engineering Faculties), D unit (Life and Earth Science Faculties) and E unit (Law and Social Science Faculties and Education and Research Institute).

Prof Islam said only the students who passed their HSC and its equivalent examinations in 2017 and 2018 with requisite points can apply for admission test.

He said the students will not get any chance to take part in admission test for second time from the next year. The candidates will have to sit for 100-mark MCQ test with one hour duration. This year, a total of 4,173 qualified students will get chance for admission in 59 departments and two institutions. Results of the two-day admission tests will be published by November 15 and admission process will start from November 25. Classes of the newly admitted students will start from January 21 next year, Prof Islam added.

Detailed information for admission test will be available on www.ru.ac.bd website and also in advertisement to be published in newspapers.

DUCS, JUSJ joint champions in MIST cultural contest

Dhaka University Cultural Society (DUCS) and Jahangirnagar University Sangskritik Jote (JUSC) have jointly become champions in an inter-university cultural competition organised by Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).

The daylong competition, Ankur 2018, was held at the MIST main auditorium on Saturday, said a press release. MIST became first runners-up while Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) second runners-up of the competition.

Among the judges, there were filmmaker and television director Giasuddin Selim, writer Sadat Hossain, and dance artists Dolly Iqbal and Farhana Chowdhury Baby.

The winning performance of Dhaka University team included dance, puppet dance, recitation, acting, music and so on. The performance of another winning team of JU also included the combination of modern dance, folk dance, recitation, music and mime. The team portrayed the Rohingya crisis through mime. Students from different public and private universities actively participated in various segments of the daylong programme.

Academic council meeting held at Gono Bishwabidyalay

SAVAR: The 15th academic council meeting of Gono Bishwabidyalay was held at the conference room of Vice-Chancellor yesterday, says a press release. Vice-Chancellor (Current) Prof Laila Parveen Banu presided over the meeting. The members of the meeting discussed on different issues including minutes of the 14th academic council meeting, the result of 2017 & 2018 final examinations and several syllabi reviewed and approved.

Academic council member Dr Sharif Enamul Kabir, Ex Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Prof Abul Qasem Chowdhury and Prof Altafunnesa, Trustees of Gono Bishwabidyalay, Md Elias Khan, Principal of Savar University College, Prof Mesbahuddin Ahmad, Ex Vice-Chancellor of Gono Bishwabidyalay, Prof Md Delwar Hossain, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Md Delower Hossain, Registrar, Doctor M IQbal Hossain, along with different department heads and senior faculties were present as members of the academic council.

IU admission process from next week

ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: The application process for admission to first year honors courses at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia under 2018-19 academic sessions will begin on September 10, an IU official said recently. The process will continue till October 10, IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif said, adding that the admission tests of 33 departments of the university will be held in 4 units from this year. He also said the admission test will take place on November 4 to 7 while 2275 seats will be filled up as per the merit list and 161 seats from the quota.
