Janmashtami celebrated


Members of the Hindu community celebrated ‘Shuva Janmashtami’, one of their major religious festivals, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna in the city yesterday with due religious devour and enthusiasm. The day's programme began with bringing out a colorful traditional Janmashtami processions at 11am with musical instruments, placards, banners, festoons, traditional motifs, displays and drama scenes on events of life and works of the Lord Krishna from line road of the city.

Jebunnesa Afroz MP inaugurated the programme and Advocate Talukdar Md Yunus MP and district Awami League secretary attended the programme as chief guest.

Rakhal Chandra Dey, president Dharma Rakkhini Sava, presided over the inaugural function at Line Road-Sadar Road crossing of the city.   A 30 days long programme of Krishna Kirtan, recitation from holy books and discussion meetings were also started from Wednesday night at Dharma Rakkhini Sava and Ramakrishna Mission.  The law enforcing agencies arranged special measures to ensure safety and security of the Janmashtami programmes.

Thousands of people from Hindu community participated in these programmes with hope that 'the bonds of communal harmony and fraternity have been prevailing among the people of Bangladesh for thousands of years, will strengthen more, organizers of the programmes said.
