
112 held from hotels
Gazipur: In a special drive, police arrested 112 people, including 52 women, on charges of engaging in immoral activities from different residential hotels in Tongi on Thursday night. Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station, said a team of police raided a good number of hotels in the area overnight and arrested them.
Hizb-ut-Tahrir man held
Chattogram: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a member of banned Islamic outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir from Kazir Dewri area in the port city on Thursday afternoon. An elite force team in a drive detained Amiruz Zaman Parvez, 39, from a shop in the area, said Mimtanur Rahman, senior assistant director (media) of Rab-7.
The Rab members also recovered leaflets, jihadi books, a laptop and a mobile phone set from him.
Earlier, a case was filed against him with Kotwali Police Station for his alleged involvement with the militancy.
Anti-liberation forces hatching conspiracies anew: Matia
Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury said the anti-liberation forces are out to hatch conspiracies afresh to impede the pace of development of the country.
“When the country is witnessing development in every sector, the anti-liberation forces are hatching conspiracies anew to thwart the trend of development,” he told a discussion marking the National Mourning Day at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium at Farmgate in the capital on Thursday.
