kabaddi’s both events

Aiming to win medal and to regain some glory in the Asian Games kabaddi, both the Bangladesh men’s and women’s team began the missions with huge defeat against their respective opponents in Palembang, Jakarta yesterday. Women’s kabaddi team went down to Chinese Taipei by 43-28 while men’s team suffered 21-50 defeat to India.

Women’s team, who won the bronze medal in their previous two editions of the Asian Games in Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon in 2014 respectively.

Bangladesh women’s team who were drawn in the Group B will take on Iran today in their second match while South Korea is the other team in Bangladesh group.

Bangladesh women’s team despite began the match with obtaining first point but could not keep up the momentum as after having another point to lead 2-0, Taipei captured the match control and did not look back to build any challenge against them and sealed the victory by 43-28 points.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh women team went to Jakarta to take part in the Asian Games without playing any international match for last two and a half years and even they had not opportunity to play any practice match before going to Indonesia.   

The condition of men’s team were more woeful when they went down to India by 21-50 points, though initially it looked that Bangladesh team would make comeback at least to make the game competitive when the early stage score sheet showed 8-12 but ultimately they could not make any resistance and India finished on 50-21.


Swimmers also started with unhappy note when in the women’s 100 meters freestyle Khadija Akter finished  24th out of 26 with a timing of 1:27:20 minute.

Khadija, who competed in the heat at the GBK Aquatic Center where she was the last among seven swimmers. Kadija will compete in two more events when she will swim in the 50 meters breaststroke and 50 meters freestyle on August 23 and 24.


Shooting, one of the most expected events, Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) focused on to win medals in the Asian Games also started their campaign with disappointing note when the both 10 meters Air Rifle mixed team and 10 meters Air Pistol mixed team could not do their expected results.

Held at the JSC Shooting Complex, Palembang, Bangladesh stood 13th among 22 teams in the 10 meters Air Rifle mixed team scoring 814.9 with Arnab Sharar scoring 409.9 points and Seyeda Atkia Hassan scored 405 points.

In the 10 meters Air Pistol mixed team's event Bangladesh managed 19th place out of 21 with Nur Hassan Alif and Ardian Ferdous pair scored 734 points. Nur Hassan Alif scored 365 and Ardian Ferdous scored 369 points.
