Verdict of 2 suspects any day

The International Crimes Tribunal will deliver its verdict any day against a former Habiganj Awami League leader Liakat Ali and Aminul Islam from Kishoreganj for their alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971, reports UNB.

Both Liakat Ali, former president of Lakhai upazila unit AL of Habiganj, and Aminul Islam alias Rajab Ali, from Ashtogram upazila of Kishoreganj, are on the run.

The three-member ICT, led by Judge Md Shahinur Islam kept the verdict CAV (curia advisari vult, which means reserving the verdict for a later time) after concluding arguments of both sides.

Prosecutors Rana Dasgupta and Rezia Sultana stood for the prosecution while Gazi MH Tamim represented the accused during the arguments.

On May 18, 2016, the tribunal issued arrest warrant against the duo while they went into hiding.

According to the case statement, during the Liberation War in 1971 the duo allegedly committed looting, mass killings, abduction in Habiganj and Kishoreganj.
