Work sincerely to improve quality of education: Minister

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman yesterday said the teachers would have to play their role with sincerity and honesty to ensure quality of education. "Quality of education does not improve only for increasing salaries (of teachers)," he said while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of 'Connecting Classroom-3' at British Council on Fuller Road in the capital, reports BSS. Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan and National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) Director General Prof. M. Hamidul Haq attended the function as special guests while British High Commissioner Robert W. Gibson was present as guest of honor. British Council Country Director Barbara Wickham delivered the welcome address. The minister said efficient and trained teachers have been recruited in the primary level. Many people are joining primary schools as teachers after completing higher education. Therefore, the quality of education will increase, if they teach sincerely, he added. Mustafizur Rahman said he is hopeful about primary education. "The present government is making all efforts for infrastructure development of primary schools and increasing other facilities," he added. "Our country is a country of potentials. Now our target is not a middle-income country, but a prosperous Bangladesh," the minister said. He said ensuring quality education requires teamwork. All will have to work for this, he added. In the function, 10 primary and secondary schools were given international recognition. The minister handed over citations and crests to representatives of those schools.
Besides, six schools and their students were awarded for their contributions to 'Reserve of the World' project.
