Udichi’s two-day drama festival kicks off today

On the occasion of celebrating golden jubilee, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi is going to hold a two-day dance festival on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital. With the slogan ‘Nritye-Chhonde Pathor Somoy Bhangar Prottay’, the festival titled ‘Nritya Utsab 2018’ is set to kick off today at 5pm at the Music, Recitation and Dance Centre auditorium of BSA.

Veteran dance exponent Bazlur Rahman Badal from Rajshahi is scheduled to inaugurate the festival today. After the inauguration, the dance artistes of Udichi will perform with the song ‘Shankhacheel’ of pioneer Gano Sangeet exponent Hemanga Biswas. Besides, president of Udichi’s central unit Professor Dr Safiuddin Ahmad, former president of Udichi Kamal Lohani, eminent dance artiste Laila Hasan, noted dance researcher, teacher and director Dr Mahua Mukherjee from West Bengal will be present at the discussion segment. Presided over by president of Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar unit Kazi Mohammad Shish, the welcome speech will be delivered by general secretary of Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar unit Iqbalul Haq Khan.

After the discussion event, prominent dance organisations and troupes from different parts of the country will perform on the opening day. Moreover, the dance artistes from the various district and branch units of Udichi will present their performance.

Tomorrow, on the second day of the festival, a discussion event will start at 5pm which will be attended by dance exponent Amanul Haq, Minu Haq, Sharmila Bandhopadhyaya and Tamanna Rahman. General secretary of the Udichi central unit Jamshed Anwar Tapan will deliver speech in this segment.

After the discussion, a dance drama titled ‘Sidhu-Kanur Pala’, based on the Santhal rebellion--dramatised, planned and directed by Dr Mohua Mukherjee, will be staged on the concluding day of the festival.

To note, the troupes those will be performing dance during the two-day festival include Nrityam, Nrityanandan, Spandan, Nandan KalaKendra, Natraj, Kathuk Nritya Sampradaya and Kadamati, among others. Besides, the dance artistes from different district units of Udichi like Gopalganj, Barisal, Narayanganj, Dinajpur and the capital’s Gulshan unit will participate in the festival.
