diagnostic centre fined Tk 25 lakh

A mobile court of Rapid Action battalion (RAB) yesterday imposed Tk 25 lakh fine on a Popular Diagnostic Centre in Dhanmondi Road-2 for using expired re-agents (chemicals) and also sending them outside Dhaka branches. The RAB magistrate, Sarwar Alam, led the operation which began at 1pm and continued till 4 pm. After conducting the operation, Sarwar Alam said the drive was conducted on the 7th floor lab of the diagnostic center and in the storeroom on the 10thfloor. “We had received a complaint from Mymensingh that expired re-agents (chemicals) were sent outside Dhaka. “Instead of discarding the expired re-agents, the diagnostic centre writes new date on them. We found serious malpractices. We also got huge amount of re-agents in the storeroom and Lab

Machine. This of these expires in 2016, which ended in 2017. If the re-agents are expired, the report may not be correct and incorrect reports will lead to wrong treatment. They have been fleecing patients. The diagnostic centre was fined Tk 25 lakh,” said Sarwar Alam.

Replying to a journalist’s query, he said the diagnostic centre was fined Tk 9 lakh on December 17 in 2015 for selling expired medicines and testing expired blood sample.

“When we came to conduct the drive, we couldn’t meet any MD or CEO of the centre, we thought about Silgala. If the centre is shut down, patients will suffer. Well, if we get such complaints later, the diagnostic centre will be handed harsher punishment,” said the RAB magistrate.
