World Refugee Day today

World Refugee
Day today

World Refugee Day will be observed in the country along with elsewhere across the globe today, reports UNB. June 20 is the day when the world commemorates the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. According to UNHCR, one in every 113 people has been forced to flee their homes because of war or persecution in the world.

In September 2016, global leaders agreed to work towards a Global Compact for refugees and in 2018 where all parts of society stand together # WithRefugees and do their fair share instead of leaving individual states to bear the burden of mass forced displacement.

People can call on these governments to keep their promise by signing the #WithRefugees petition which asks them to make sure every refugee child gets an education, every refugee family has somewhere safe to live and every refugee can work or learn new skills to support their families.

UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, will host two events in the city on Wednesday and June 28 marking the World Refugee Day that falls on June 20.

An art exhibition with the title, ‘Art for Humanity: The Flight and Resilience of the Rohingya’ will be held on June 20-28 in collaboration with the Cox’s Bazar Art Club.

A panel discussion with the title, ‘1971 Refugee Experience: Reflections on Past and Present’ will be held on June 28 in collaboration with the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum.

Both the events will be held at the Liberation War Museum in the city. The exhibition will be inaugurated today.
