80 gold bars seized at airport

Customs officials seized 80 gold bars weighing 9.28 kgs from a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early yesterday.

Ataul Islam, inspector custom, said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-087 landed at the airport from Kualalampur around 4:30 am.

Tipped off, a team of customs officials, led by Fahmida Mehzabin, deputy commissioner (customs) conducted a search operation in the flight and recovered the gold bars worth Tk 4.68 crore from under a seat wrapped in black scotch tape.

However, no one was arrested in this connection.

3315 cases filed for traffic rule violations in capital

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a daylong drive on Wednesday filed 3315 cases on charges of traffic rule violation.

Traffic division in their simultaneous drives on the streets also realised over Taka 21.53 lakh as fine, said an official release.

As many as 325 cases were lodged for driving on the wrong sides, 59 other cases for using hydraulic horn, beckon light and 18 others for using tinted glass.

Some 58 cases, including 29 video cases, were lodged against drivers of different modes of vehicles on charges of talking over mobile phone while they were driving.

It also dumped 42 vehicles and wrecked 631 others.

Besides, 55 cases were lodged against motorcycles and 279 others were seized for the traffic rule violations.
